One of the major challenges facing all apparel
business owners today is having meaningful standards
of comparison for their financial performance. But
in an industry in which the large majority of
businesses are privately held, how can a company get
its hands on enough significant financial and
operational data upon which to make any meaningful
comparisons?
ATAC Network developed a benchmarking survey to
address this specific issue. The tool, called ATAC
SCORD CARD, was first introduced in the year 2000 in
an attempt to provide answers to the most commonly
asked questions by apparel business owners,
including:
- Is my gross profit percentage comparable to
other companies of my size in the industry?
- How does my gross sales per employee compare
with the industry?
- What’s the optimal inventory turnover rate?
- Am I spending too much on marketing?
- How much should I be paying my Production
Manager?
SCORE CARD includes data from approximately 160
companies and encompasses compensation and benefits
information in addition to financials. The tool
provides your company with the ability to benchmark
your full income statement, balance sheet and key
ratios against all companies included in the survey,
as well as companies within your relevant revenue
range, market segment, and region. Comparison data
versus a select group of public companies is also
available.
With payroll being the second largest cost for
apparel companies next to cost of sales,
compensation information is particularly valuable.
SCORE CARD contains salary and bonus benchmarks for
over 30 of the top job positions in the industry,
including:
- President, CEO
- CFO, Controller
- A/R and A/P Managers
- VP Sales
- Marketing Director
- Merchandiser
- Designer
- Patternmaker
- Operations Director
- Shipping Manager
In addition, benefit benchmarks for “Management
Personnel” and “Other Employees” are available
covering these key areas:
- Insurance: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life
- Pension Plan
- Profit-Sharing Plan
- 401(k) Plan
- Sick Pay
- Vacation Pay
- Bonus
To see how your company measures up, please call
